Install Mailbag Contact Form

The free plugin comes from the WordPress.org plugin directory — the same place your admin's Add New Plugin screen searches.

Why there is no download yet: every new plugin goes through WordPress.org's review queue before it gets a listing, and a name can't be reserved there in advance. The listing, and this button, arrive the day the review approves it. We don't offer the plugin as a zip on this site in the meantime: installing plugin files from a website you've just found is how WordPress sites get compromised, and we'd rather not teach the habit.

What activation sets up

Activating Mailbag creates one ready-made form called Contact form, with Name, Email and Message fields and your site's admin address as the recipient. It doesn't redirect you anywhere. Open Mailbag → Forms: each form is listed with its shortcode and the name of its block. Deactivating and activating again never creates a second copy.

Put the form on a page

• Block editor: add the Mailbag Form block and pick the form.
• Anywhere else: paste the shortcode, such as [mailbag id="1"], with the id from the Forms screen.

The form's stylesheet and script load only on pages where one of the two is used. It works without JavaScript and behind page caching.

Then check your email in two minutes

1. Open Mailbag → Settings and look at the From address. The check next to it tells you whether it's on your site's own domain.
2. Press Send test email. The result is what your mail server says, word for word.
3. Send your contact form once yourself, then open Mailbag → Entries. The entry is there, with its mail status.

Coming from Contact Form 7?

Use Mailbag → Import. It reads your CF7 forms — Contact Form 7 doesn't even have to be active — shows a report of anything that can't come along, and lists the pages where a CF7 shortcode or block sits, so you know which pages to swap.

Mailbag Pro

Pro is a separate add-on plugin, sold on the pricing page. It needs the free plugin installed and active. After purchase you get a zip that already carries your licence: upload it under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, activate it, and the Integrations and License tabs appear in Mailbag's settings.

Requirements

WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. No other plugin is needed. If your server runs an older PHP version, Mailbag doesn't break the site: it stays inactive and shows a notice to the administrator saying what to ask the host for.
