Switching from Contact Form 7 without losing a form

1 · Import, and read the report

Mailbag's importer is under Mailbag → Import. It reads each CF7 form, even with CF7 deactivated, and shows a report before anything is created: how many fields will be imported, which tags can't be, and whether the form's Mail (2) becomes an automatic reply. Contact Form 7's quiz, file, hidden and Stripe tags are named rather than dropped silently, and an unknown tag is named too.

2 · Check the mail settings that came across

CF7's special mail-tags are translated: the site admin address becomes {admin_email}, and a field tag such as [your-subject] becomes {field:your-subject}. The notification stays switched on — some importers turn it off, which is how people lose a week of enquiries after switching. Send a test entry to confirm.

3 · Swap each page

The import report lists every page where a CF7 shortcode or block sits, with its title. Open each, replace CF7's shortcode or block with the Mailbag Form block or [mailbag id="…"], and update. Mailbag never edits your pages itself — a find-and-replace on page content is exactly the kind of change you want to make, and see, yourself.

4 · Keep the keys, then retire CF7

If CF7 used reCAPTCHA or Turnstile, the importer offers to take those keys over. Say yes before you delete CF7: deleting it removes its forms and settings, including the keys. When every page is swapped and a test entry has arrived, deactivate and delete Contact Form 7. If you used Flamingo, keep it until you no longer need the old submissions, because they aren't imported.

If Contact Form 7 sent contacts to Brevo

CF7 has a Brevo integration. The report says so on any form that used it: Mailbag saves every entry, and the paid Mailbag Pro can send them on to Brevo.
