Sending WordPress form entries to MailerLite

MailerLite's API adds or updates a subscriber by email address and puts them in one or more groups, using an API token from your MailerLite account. A form integration should map your fields to MailerLite fields, add to the right groups, and keep the entry safe when MailerLite doesn't accept it.

Groups are the hook

In MailerLite, groups decide which automations and campaigns someone gets. Put newsletter signups in one group and quote requests who agreed to updates in another, and your welcome sequences stay separate.

How Mailbag Pro sends to MailerLite

With Mailbag Pro, the paid add-on to the free Mailbag Contact Form, you paste an API token from your own MailerLite account, then choose for each form which groups entries join and which fields go where. Subscribers are created or updated by email, so the same person sending two forms isn't duplicated. You can also require the consent box to be ticked before anything is sent.

The Test button on the connection checks the token against MailerLite straight away, so a mistyped token is caught while you're setting up, not after the first lead.

What happens when MailerLite refuses

  • An invalid address — MailerLite rejects it, Pro records the reason on the entry, and doesn't try again.
  • A token that no longer works — the connection is marked failing, entries are kept, and you get one email about it per day at most.
  • MailerLite unavailable, or asking you to slow down — Pro waits as long as MailerLite asks, or retries on its schedule: 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours, 12 hours, then daily for up to 7 days.

Nothing depends on MailerLite being up

The entry is saved in WordPress and the notification email sent before Pro contacts MailerLite at all, and Pro's work happens after the visitor has already seen the thank-you message. A slow or failing MailerLite never makes your form slow or makes it fail. See Mailbag Pro.
